Budapest, January 2024 - In a historic move, Hungary officially initiated its Deposit Return System (DRS) on January 1, 2024, becoming the 15th European country to adopt this transformative approach to beverage container recycling. Envipco, recognized as one of the two Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) suppliers to DRS operator MOHU MOL Hulladékgazdálkodási Zrt., plays a pivotal role in automating and streamlining the return process.

Envipco Empowers Hungary's DRS Success with 700+ RVMs: A Sustainable Future Unveils
With over 700 RVMs already deployed in Hungary, Envipco's significant involvement in Hungary's DRS is set to be a driving force for its success. The ongoing Phase 1 includes an additional potential of 1,600 RVMs, with a Phase 2 potential of 2,000 machines expected to be delivered in the next 12-24 months.
The Hungary DRS covers plastic up to 3 Liters and glass bottles, along with aluminium cans. For disposable containers, the deposit stands at HUF 50 (EUR 0.13). This initiative aligns with EU targets on plastics recovery, recycled content in beverage containers, and aims to reduce litter and environmental impact.
Under the new legislation, the return of empty beverage containers is now mandatory for grocery stores with a sales area exceeding 400m². MOHU, the DRS operator, has selected Envipco as one of the two RVM suppliers, securing orders for the efficient deployment of these machines across the country.
